RELATIONSHIP OR COUPLES COUNSELLING

Relationship or couples counselling is an effective form of therapy where issues within the relationship are explored in a safe and contained space.

It could be that you’re married, living together, single, gay, bisexual, straight or transgender – however you identify – relationship or couples counselling could be of benefit to you in enabling you to begin to explore the difficulties you are encountering.

Wherever there is difficulty in a relationship counselling can be of benefit, for example a mother, son relationship, or a father, daughter relationship; sibling relationships, or any other form of relationship that causes stress and anxiety.

Often, a common factor in a relationship breakdown is poor communication. Difficulties in communication can lead to tension, anger, resentment, avoidance, conflict and pain.  Perhaps you are not feeling heard or understood in your relationship.

You find yourselves stuck, constantly arguing and unhappy, unable to resolve the conflicts between you.  Therapy together aims to give you a shared and equal space to be heard and listened to as individuals within the relationship.

There may be a number of different reasons for you and your partner to seek support in your relationship.

Therapists provide a safe, caring and non-judgemental environment where, together with your therapist’s guidance you might begin to see the problems in your relationship as an opportunity for deeper understanding, to begin to communicate with curiosity and thus resolve conflicts peacefully.

If you decide relationship counselling is the way forward for both of you an initial assessment will determine where to begin giving consideration to duration, frequency of sessions and fees.
