Bethan Hensser

Arts Psychotherapist M.A

Creative Arts Clinical Supervisor CAST P.G Dip,

HCPC, BAAT registered.

I bring warmth, integrity and curiosity to my work and believe that the most healing aspect of psychotherapy is the relationship created with you during this process.

I offer a safe space without judgement, where I can help you explore how your creative process is linked to your thoughts, feelings and perceptions, giving you a greater understanding of yourself and your experiences in order to make positive changes in your life.

Creativity is the ability to create new ideas, solutions or possibilities in a unique way. Sometimes this may be by thinking metaphorically, or it may be incorporating various art forms, story, or body work, so we can gain deeper access to levels of self awareness and express emotions or experience's words cannot convey alone.

Within sessions creativity, alongside talking, can open a window to our inner world, which can be witnessed and understood together, allowing for transformation to begin. You do not need previous art experience and I do not interpret art works made, but observe and listen to your own process and help you to find your own meaning.

My practice is informed by psychodynamic, attachment and systemic principles and a commitment to trauma informed work, meaning safety, trust, choice, collaboration and empowerment. The links between Neuroscience and Art Psychotherapy are at the forefront of research and psycho education within therapy empowers and informs the client.

Our work together may help you feel more able to cope with problems and enjoy life more. It may help improve self esteem, mood, coping strategies, feeling understood, symptoms of trauma or loss and feeling hopeful or more connected with your body and mind.

Here are some of the issues I work with:

  • Emotional, behavioural or communication difficulties.

  • Trauma.

  • Life changes, transitions and loss.

  • Mental health issues.

  • Anxiety and worries.

  • Depression.

  • Illness or physical disability.

  • Those displaced or seeking asylum.

  • Attachment and relational difficulties.

  • Identity and self esteem issues.

  • Abuse, neglect and domestic violence.

  • Eating disorders.

Creative Arts Clinical Supervision

As a Supervisor I offer creative individual and group supervision to trainee and qualified arts therapists, psychotherapists, counsellors, health care clinicians, well being staff, educators and leaders, alongside other professionals interested in reflective practice.

I apply the use of The Seven Eyed Model, by Hawkins and Shohet, as a useful framework in which to facilitate supervision. This model integrates the relational and systemic aspects

operating at any time during supervision, involving the supervisor, supervisee, the client, work context and wider context.

My practice is centred on values of inclusion, respect and confidentiality. If you are looking for an empathic, reflective and creative space, please get in touch to discuss further.
